Discalced Carmelites Buyala Parish Uganda

The Discalced Carmelites, known for their simplicity and devotion to prayer, trace their origins back to the reform efforts of Saint Teresa of Ávila and Saint John of the Cross in 16th century Spain. Embracing a life of poverty and humility, the Discalced Carmelites seek to follow the teachings of their founders, living a life dedicated to prayer, contemplation, and service to God. They renounce material possessions and worldly pleasures, instead focusing on the pursuit of spiritual perfection and union with God.
More About Us

Who we are

We, as Discalced Carmelites, hold a deep devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, seeing her as our spiritual mother and protector. Believing in her intercession and guidance, we turn to her in prayer for strength, inspiration, and guidance in our lives and spiritual journey. The brown scapular, a symbol of her special protection, is worn by many of us as a sign of our devotion and commitment to her. We believe that through her motherly care, we are led closer to her Son, Jesus Christ, and are empowered to live out our Carmelite vocation with faith and love.
